“Collected Forms”
Commission for MSC Cruise Terminals, Miami Beach, Florida
(2025)
Collected Forms is a site-specific ceramic installation featuring two monumental friezes that explore nature’s interconnectedness, offering voyagers a striking reflection on the delicate ecosystems they encounter. Arranged in a Penrose pattern and mounted on wood panels routed with sacred geometry, this handmade ceramic work highlights the fragile equilibrium of underwater environments—particularly coral reefs, which are both vital and increasingly vulnerable.
The sculptural elements—corals and other marine life—are cast from the artist’s extensive database of 3D scans, collected over nearly a decade. This fusion of geometric precision and organic fluidity mirrors the complexity and harmony of the deep sea. A subtle color progression, transitioning from unglazed white to soft blues, greens, pinks, and grays, symbolizes the transformation of coral ecosystems, evoking both their natural vibrancy and the threats they face. Meticulously crafted through mold-making, slip casting, and layered spray glazing, the installation immerses viewers in an oceanic world while prompting reflection on conservation.
Blending art, science, and advocacy, Collected Forms aligns with the MSC Foundation’s mission to cultivate appreciation for the ocean and inspire responsible stewardship. It encourages voyagers not only to admire marine life but to recognize their role in its preservation for future generations.
